Grants Approved December 2009

The Real Estate Foundation's Board of Governors approved seven grants at their December 2009 board meeting. The total amount of grants approved was $225,000. This summary lists the recipients and a brief description of their projects.

$5,000 - Tides Canada Initiatives Society as an additional contribution to the Give Green Canada project: education for BC environmental, stewardship and conservation organizations on how to become more financially secure through gift planning ($15,000 was approved in September).

$15,000 - United We Can to support the purchase and installation of new sorting bins and equipment for this social enterprise, which recycles 25 million containers a year keeping them out of the land fill, and provides employment for 150 green collar workers in Vancouver's downtown eastside.

$20,000 - City of Campbell River to undertake collaborative land use planning with neighbouring First Nations.

$20,000 - Land Trust Alliance of British Columbia as an additional contribution to support public and professional education and research projects during the 2009/10 fiscal year ($40,000 was approved in March).

$25,000 - Victoria Real Estate Board as an additional contribution to "Resilient Cities", the 2009 Gaining Ground conference held in Vancouver ($50,000 was approved in March).

$40,000 - Real Estate Foundation of BC to support programming activities of the 2010 Gaining Ground conference, which will be held in Vancouver in October.

$50,000 - BC Water and Waste Association for the 2010 activities of Convening for Action on Vancouver Island (CAVI), an initiative focused on leadership in green infrastructure and water sustainability. The Foundation has supported CAVI since 2006.

$50,000 - Real Estate Foundation of BC as an additional contribution to the 2009 Green Building Grant Program ($50,000 was approved in March).
